The Secret to an Effortless Spring Opening: Day & Night Polar™ Cold-Water Care

The Secret to an Effortless Spring Opening: Day & Night Polar™ Cold-Water Care

When fall rolls around, most pool owners view closing day as the finish line. You shock the pool, blow out the lines, put the cover on, and forget about it until May. But here is a truth that every pool owner needs to know: a closed pool is not an inactive pool.

Even during the freezing winter months, your pool water continues to react to sunlight, temperature shifts, and organic debris. Traditional closing kits treat winterizing as a one-time event, often leaving you with a green, cloudy pool and days of heavy scrubbing come spring.

At Main Street Pool & Spa, we recommend a smarter approach to winter water care: the Day & Night Polar™ Winter Water Management Kit.

Why Day & Night Polar™ Changes the Game

Engineered specifically for Canadian winters by Backyard Brands, this 3-step system works continuously from closing day through spring opening. Instead of letting contaminants settle and attach to your pool surfaces over the winter, Day & Night Polar™ stays active under solid and mesh covers alike.

  • Photo-Responsive Technology: Features active components that react to sunlight, providing ongoing oxidation even while the pool is covered.
  • Surface Protection: Prevents organic matter, fine particles, and scum from bonding to your liner, tile, or fibreglass surfaces.
  • Faster Spring Startup: Because contaminants are controlled all winter, your spring opening requires fewer chemicals, less vacuuming, and significantly less effort.
  • Reusable Bucket: The kit comes packed inside a heavy-duty, reusable storage tote, ideal for storing winterizing plugs, gizmos, and return fittings.

What’s Inside the Kit?

The Day & Night Polar™ kit is designed to treat pools up to 80,000 Litres (approx. 21,000 Gallons) and includes three targeted formulas:

1. Polar Shock™

Your closing-day cleanup catalyst. Polar Shock™ delivers rapid oxidation and chlorination to eliminate organic waste and contaminants before you cover the pool, ensuring a completely clean baseline for the off-season.

2. Solei Polar™

The heart of continuous winter protection. Solei Polar™ is a winter-engineered, photo-responsive oxidizer that stays active in cold, non-circulating water. It powers up as soon as spring light reaches the water, preventing off-season dullness and clarity loss.

3. Luna Polar™

Advanced surface conditioning and clarity support. Luna Polar™ binds fine suspended particles together so they can be easily filtered or vacuumed out at opening, while simultaneously preventing organic deposits from sticking to submerged surfaces.

How to Apply: Quick Start Summary

Using the system is simple and straightforward. Always ensure you brush the pool thoroughly after adding each product to mix it well into the water.

Step Product Dosage (per 10,000 L) Closing Application Opening Application
1. Prepare Polar Shock™ 125 g Add via skimmer with pump running, or sprinkle in deep end if water level is lowered. Add slowly via a clean skimmer with the system running.
2. Preserve Solei Polar™ 450 mL Shake well; pour evenly around the pool perimeter and brush. Pour around perimeter and brush into circulation.
3. Condition Luna Polar™ ~50 g (425 g per 80,000 L) Sprinkle around perimeter after water level is set; brush thoroughly. Remove cover, start circulation, sprinkle around perimeter, and brush.

Note: For fibreglass pools, always consult manufacturer guidelines regarding water levels before lowering.

Stop Scrubbing, Start Swimming

Investing a few extra minutes during closing saves you hours of work and money on extra chemicals when May arrives. Protect your pool investment all winter long with cold-water care that actually works.
